Ubuntu Bug #1 calls out Microsoft in particular and non-free software in general, accusing them of stiffling innovation. So what is Ubuntu going to do in order to fix that bug? Of course! Use non-free software! When they (MS, Apple, other Linux distros) do it, it is pure evil and they are hurting innovation!!! Grrr!!! But when Ubuntu does it, it's great! In fact, it's innovative! Yay!!! Makes sense to me!
And now all of the fanboys defend the shift because according to them, all that matters is market share. Sounds like this Ubuntu experiment failed and just turned into a simple case of jealousy. Waaah! Microsoft has more users than we do. We're not the popular kids!
